Ideas For Doing Your Own Weddings Flowers, Artificial Or Fresh – When to Use a Florist

Submitted by Michelle O’Connor
Doing Your Own Flowers Can be Complicated. Make Sure You Know What You Are Getting Into!

There are many reasons you may want to go with do-it-yourself wedding flowers… the number one reason is that they typically can save you a chunk of cash.  With that in mind, florists are professionals at their trade, and, while that gorgeous cascade bouquet might look simple to you, it was quite complex to create! Before you attempt this on your own, be sure you have some talent in this area, a good amount of time and a lot of patience in order for you to successfully do your own wedding flowers

Before you begin, decide which wedding flowers you will make on your own and which you will hire help for. While you can make them all, you may want to consider having some help with some of the larger or more complicated pieces. During your planning phase, be sure you really do have the time to devote to this, weddings take a lot of planning!

Some of the places you’ll need flowers:
The Ceremony- In many cases, you’ll want to provide wedding flowers for the altar of the church or the area in which you will be married. You may also want to decorate the pews of the church or the area near the entry. Make sure your flower girls has her petals. Be sure that your location will allow you to provide you own flowers, some will want you to purchase theirs.  Remember, the number one rule is that YOU like any wedding decoration supplies you use. Your Bridesmaids- Decide if you want their bouquets to match yours, be smaller versions of yours, or be completely different. Will they have fresh flowers or artificial ones? Your Groomsmen- Don’t leave out the guys! They will need lapel flowers. We suggest you hire a florist for these, they are NOT as easy as they look. The Wedding Reception- Check with your reception location to make sure you can provide your own, then, put up some large displays around the cake table, at the entrances and on the tables. It is helpful to look up some photos of receptions, then, decide which areas you think MUST have flowers
If you do opt for artificial flowers, be sure to check for sales at your local crafts stores. If you go with fresh cut flowers, you will save money if you select varieties that are in season at the time of your wedding.

Flower Arranging – Start Earning in No Time – Yes, You, Stay at Home Moms!

Submitted by Gina Redwick
Flower arranging has seen a resurfacing in the last 2-3 years. Although it’s a very old craft, dating back to ancient Egypt and the Greek and Roman empires, somehow during the Industrial era it has taken a back seat, being pushed aside by other artistical endeavours such as jewelry making, crocheting, quilting, etc.

If you go to Amazon, you will see two types of books (based on publishing date): books published between 1070-1980s and books published after 2003. If you’re paying any attention to these things, you will realise that there is a great market for those who have a bit of time on their hands (usually stay at home moms) to enter into, before it gets saturated. And trust me, right now, it isn’t (yet!). Flower arranging is slowly becoming the ‘in’ thing to be involved with.

Making flower arrangements is a really fun thing to do. And if you enjoy doing it, you will have success at it. People are looking for beautiful arrangements, and they are paying enough bucks for it too. And who wouldn’t want to earn some extra money for making something they like to do anyway?

Learning flower arranging is not difficult at all. It takes some basic supplies and equipment (and of course flowers), but trust me, as one of my hobbies is making silver jewelry, the costs are only a fraction of the second. Imagine buying now sterling silver to make your jewelry, you get the idea…

But first things first. What do you need to start up your flower arranging business:
First you need to find a wholesale flower shop that can give you flowers in large quantities. Far cheaper than buying them retailwise. you will need some supplies, such as various containers (vases, etc), floral foam, scissors, some wire you need a bit of time (you have the advantage of having that over the regular 9-5 working folks), and a determination to have some fun while making money.

And how can you learn flower arranging? There are a couple of ways:
through courses that cost a ton and might or might not be available in your area by buying books at Amazon and other book centers by buying ebooks that teach it by following various online tutorials, there are plenty out there

Personally, I recommend for starters the fourth option, before you invest in more advanced techniques.
To get you started making money, you can find a great flower arranging eCourse on my blog. This will allow you to master the basics, and start selling your flower arrangements in no time. While you are on my blog, stick around and read the articles on the various types of flower arrangements. Once you are past the basics, you can choose which type of flower arrangements you want to pursue for your small business. From my experience, I have noticed a trend towards Japanese flower arranging and the basic flower arranging using fresh flowers. See you on my blog at http://flowerarranginghobby.com/

Silk Flower Arrangements, Simple and Beautiful Decorating

Submitted by D Randolph
Everyone notices flowers. Let me say that again, everyone notice flowers. Flowers can make the room and silk flower arrangements are the easiest way to do this. Silk Flower Arrangements are pre-made floral arrangements. They can be taken out of the box and set on a table in an instant in most cases. This is the simplest decorating technique that will have a great impact on a room.

These artificial floral arrangements are available in many sizes and can me made up of a single type of flower or a combination of flowers. Silk Roses, Tulips, Gerbera Daisies and Hydrangeas are the most popular flowers for arranging but many others are available. Clear vases and planters with faux water are the more common but clay or synthetic vases are usually found as well.

Color is important. A silk flower arrangement will bring a burst of color to a room so make sure it is the right color. Reds, Yellow, Creams, Pinks, Greens and Oranges are all pretty easy to find. You can also find arrangements that are more seasonal especially ones with a autumn theme or a Christmas theme. Clear vases are the most neutral but typically silk flower arrangements have neutral colored containers.

The next consideration is height. I personally prefer a short silk flower arrangement for dining tables. This makes it so guests don’t have to try to peer to the side to get a glimpse of another guest. In other settings there are numerous sizes available. Use a tall arrangement next to a fireplace or in an entry way, use a very small and compact arrangement in an intimate dining area.

One place often over looked in using flowers is an office. Offices benefit from a mid sized silk flower arrangement. People spend a lot of time in an office. Flowers can really make for a nice look.

The ease and cost of Silk Flower Arrangements make them a must have for decorating. From a cost standpoint, small arrangements cost $20-50 and a large arrangement will cost $150-250. This is very comparable to fresh flowers except that these will last for years. At home I keep 4 different arrangements for our dining table and switch them around throughout the year. This is a very cost effective plan. They store nicely and when I buy a new arrangement, I can very often just take it out of the box and put it on the table. Maintenance is also easy. A little light dusting with a feather duster usually does the trick.

How to Keep Your Flower Bouquets Looking Fresh

Submitted by Steve Miers
Whether you have cut fresh flowers from your own garden or brought some home from the store, there are some tricks that you can do to keep your bouquet looking fresh for days and even weeks. These tips should allow you and others to enjoy your flowers and keep others wondering how you got such a green thumb.

When selecting a bouquet or flowers to add to your bouquet, flower choice can make a difference in the life of your arrangement. Some flowers wilt or die faster than others once they are cut. Carnations, daisies, baby’s breath, lilies, mum and roses tend to last long when they are properly cared for.

When arranging your bouquet in a flower vase, strip the leaves from the bottom of the stems. If the leaves sit in the water too long, they can cause the water to have a bad odor. If you buy a bouquet, add the powder that comes with it to the water to help extend the life of the flowers. Ask the florist for an extra packet or two of powder. Make sure that the flower arrangement gets some sunlight. If you keep it in a room that has no windows, the arrangement will not last as long. Put some flowers in that have already bloomed and some that are still in bud form so that as one flower dies another one will be in full bloom.

Change the water every 2-3 days and add new powder if you have any. Cut about ¼”-1/2″ off the stem of each flower. Remove any flowers as they die. This helps the arrangement to continue looking fresh. You can replace them with new flowers or greenery from your garden if there are any gaps left in the flower arrangement. If you don’t have access to other flowers, move them to a smaller vase.

If you are having flowers sent to someone, ask the florist if they can recommend flowers that will last a long time. Also ask the florist if they have any recommendations on how to care for the flowers so that you can pass these tips on to the recipient.

Extending the life of your flower arrangement can be easy if you are willing to take a little time to give it some TLC. With little effort, you can keep your flower bouquet looking healthy and beautiful for an extended period of time so that you are able to enjoy it for days and weeks to come.

Flower Arranging – Moveable Decorations For Your Home

Submitted by Andrew Caxton
Most people seem to think that flower arrangements should only be used for special occasions, such as an anniversary party, a wedding reception, or something of that nature. But flower arrangements can brighten up anyone’s day at any time, and there’s no reason why they can’t be used as year-round accent decorations in your home.

There are two kinds of flower arrangements. First are the fresh flower varieties, which are the ones usually used on those special occasions. But flower arrangements using artificial flowers, leaves and berries will never wither and die, and can give pleasure all year round – especially if you love flowers but don’t have the budget to continually purchase fresh ones and don’t have the green fingers necessary to grow your own.

Artificial flowers look so realistic these days that anyone looking at a sumptuous arrangement would be prepared to swear that they were real. And because they’re artificial, it’s easy to arrange them in any way you like, and rearrange and rearrange until you have a design you like.

“But they’re artificial!” you say in disgust.

But consider. Silk flowers are hypoallergenic. They have no pollen – which causes allergies in some people – they are disease free and nontoxic. If there are any allergy sufferers in your family, they will thank you every day for giving them the colorfulness and beauty of flowers, without the attendant problems.

Home decor and hobby stores in your area will doubtless have a selection of artificial flowers and vases, however you can also look online to see the vast array of products you can use to create your masterpieces.

The first thing you’ll need to do is select an appropriate vase. Vases can be made of various materials such as porcelain, ceramic or glass, and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. To show off your flower arrangements you’ll want a solid-color vase – not one with a fancy design on it.

Afloral.com is a site that offers hundreds of silk flowers, berries, garlands, wreaths and swags, fruits, vegetables and greenery, not to mention, gems, stones and crystals. They also offer the adhesives, glues and tapes you’ll need to fix your design once you’ve got it arranged to your satisfaction. Funnily enough, they don’t offer vases…

QualitySilkPlants.com is a site that offers silk trees and topiaries, silk orchids and artificial cactus – all quite realistic looking.

Silkflowerdesign.com offers flowers suitable for “country” designs, as well as “traditional,” “modern,” “oriental,” and “exotic.”

Let your creative juices flow. Check out the world of artificial flowers today!

Flower Guide: Classical Mesh

A flower is the reproductive structure of the flowering plants. The plant’s reproductive organs are contained in the flower. The function of the flower is to produce seeds. After fertilization, portions of the flower develop into a fruit containing the seeds. The role of seeds is very important in the existence of the species of plants. Seeds are the next generation for the higher plants. These serve as the primary means by which individuals of a species are dispersed across the landscape. The inflorescence is the grouping of flowers on a plant.

Flowers are also symbol of beauty and also contain various lovely fragrances. They represent your true emotions. Roses bring a smile to your face. They have long been admired and used by humans, mainly to beautify their environment. The flowers are even used as a source of food.

In Western culture, many flowers have important symbolic meanings. The practice of assigning meanings to flowers is known as floriography. Red roses are given as a symbol of love, beauty, and passion. Lilies are often used to denote life or resurrection.Poppies are a symbol of consolation in time of death. Red poppies are worn to commemorate soldiers who have died in times of war in the UK, Australia and Canada.Irises/Lily are used in burials as a symbol referring to “resurrection/life”. Daisies are a symbol of innocence.

Flowers decorations are always very much appreciated on special occasions. Flower petals, or plants are used for wedding decorations, parties, or even for cake decorations. There are many flower companies which supply both fresh flowers, and bridal bouquets. Silk flowers (http://www.classicalmesh.com/welcome.php ) are also used for great decorations. They are sewn on fabric such as shirts, or curtains and give them a unique look.

Flowers not only give good looks but also they produce lovely smell.Hybrid tea roses offer a wide range of fragrances, including licorice, spice, and other sweet smelling aromas. Even artificial flowers can have scents added to them.

Flowers are adorning the every aspect of the lives of the people in modern times.. People have sought ways to cultivate, buy, wear, or just be around flowers and blooming plants, partly because of their agreeable smell. Flowers are greatly used for a wide range of events and functions around the world.

The rose is regarded the most obvious symbol of love and romance all over the world. The Rose has the honor of being the national flower of the US. It is a flowering shrub of the genus Rosa. The beauty, fragrance and sensuality of the roses always make them a worthy addition to any garden/landscape. The roses are of four types.

1. Bush roses— Upright rose plant, bearing rose flower on top. These are of different types. Its types include hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, miniatures and antique roses. The hybrid tea is famous for their color-range (red, yellow, pink, white) and fragrance. These are the most extensively grown among the rose types. Floribundas are refined from the hybrid tea roses. Grandifloras combine the best of the above two, while miniatures are tiny forms of all rose types. Old or antique roses have long heritage dating back to a time before 1867, the year of first hybrid tea production.

2. Climbing roses—These rose plants need staking and supports like trellis, fences, posts or pillars. They have long, curving canes and varied colors.

3. Shrub and Ground Cover roses— The shrub roses grow broadly upright and need the least care.

4. Tree roses— Any one of the bud-grafted rose types on a straight, steady trunk. They need sincere pruning and winter protection.

It is worthmentioning here that dried roses make great decorations. Their petals, and stems can be fixed onto greeting cards. You can beautify it more by adding your own unique touches. You can make a dried floral wreath. You can use dried roses to decorate a bowl, or container. They can also be stored to remember a special occasion. Surprisingly, the dead roses can last 6-12 months, even longer if properly maintained.

White rose flowers are beautiful in their simplicity. The white roses are of different styles. Some white rose’s are of the classic rose shape, with petals spiraling outward from the center. Other white roses have full blossoms with many petals. Some white roses only have a few petals, and look like daisies.

Benefits of roses

Roses are very beneficial from health point of view. Rose oil, rose water and rose hips benefit us in a number of ways.

Both rose oil and rose water are derived from the rose flower and are good for skin. Rose water acts as a tonic, antiseptic good for eye infections while Rose oil is used in aromatherapy. Roses are mild sedatives and anti-depressants. Rose hips (flowers swollen to seeds) are source of many essential vitamins and also fight bladder infections and diarrhea.

Bouquets
Your bridal bouquet can come about having the status of much of a main detail having the status of your wedding dress. Come about daring! Our florist says, “Most individuals avail yourself of monochromatic shades while matching flowers to dresses, but the opposite shade on the color steering wheel better complements the dress. Afterward, avail yourself of flower accents with the aim of match the dress color to really have the bouquet burst with color.”

Our authority as well recommends, “Make certain to inquire about what is innovative and trendy.” What is trendy at the moment? Green is still very trendy, but right now takes middle stage as a substitute of a sustaining role of other colors. Pale sorbet shades are additionally making a comeback. Pinks rebuff longer dominate the landscape, but are moving on in place of peaches, yellows and oranges.

While hand-tied bouquets are still in prohibitive demand, brides at present ask for a combination of styles. Weeping hand-tied bouquets, called pseudo-cascades, make use of elements from both designs to create gorgeous bouquets with the aim of clearly spill on top of your hands. Avail yourself of berries, feathers, crystals, wire and leaves accents. We also suggests mixing contemporary and traditional blossoms, such having the status of orchids with peonies, roses with anthurium, or else even auburn with tulips. It possibly will come about counterintuitive, but the result effect is beautiful.

Personalize your bouquet and avail yourself of it to distinguish your story. Avail yourself of grandma’s antique wedding dress lace or else beading to wrap the stem. Pin an heirloom brooch or else weave a strand of pearls otherwise a locket into the center to fulfill your “something old” or “something borrowed.” To become it that much more individual, tuck something special within the bouquet intended for your eyes just.

Decorations
Decorating is one of the areas you can either get a expert otherwise you can do-it-yourself. If you wish to deal with each assign yourself, keep in thought that many of the decor must only be set up the sunlight hours of the wedding. This additional stress may not be worth the slight savings inside the decor finances. If you do decide to make up of the decorations by hand, it is still useful to consult with the experts. Many professional decorators are more than happy to sell you materials, rent out supplies, and even teach a couple tricks of the trade. Once you have your plan, seek approval from management at the ceremony and reception venues.

Cost chopping ideas:

Double Duty: Make use of the ceremony flowers to enhance the dais or escort card and gift tables at the reception.

Less is more: Consider using raised centerpieces in 1/3 or 1/2 of the guest table centerpieces. Use low less expensive centerpieces on the balance of the tables. This gives the look of a profusion of flowers for less cost. The guests walk in to see high flowers, low flowers. Just beautiful!

The Ceremony
The entry to your ceremony location is the first glimpse your guests will catch a glimpse of of your wedding. You can make use of fresh flower wreaths and planters to elegantly adorn the doorways. Even simple bows on the railings and doors provide a festive element. Use fresh flower arrangements, balloons, tulle, and candles or other soft lighting to create the environment while guests line up to sign the guest book.

Beautify the altar with flower arrangements or else avail yourself of pedestals to frame the area with flowers and other decorations. We often recommend using two flower arrangements on either side of the altar. As a cost saving option, these displays can later on be used to enhance the reception location.

You will want to especially focus on the aisle. Your goal is to transform the aisle. We’d like to point out the single moment the bride and groom catch a glimpse sight of each other is often times the walk down the aisle.

If you are the bride, this is when all your guests rise up and look just at you; it ought to be an ethereal environment. You can line the aisle with the heads of blossoms, candles or bows and present the flower girl petals to scatter on her walk down the aisle. Tulle, flowers and custom bows promote a elegant way of denoting reserved chairs at the ceremony.

The Reception
Do not limit beautiful arrangements simply for your ceremony. Pomander balls and topiaries are beautifully elegant adornments for both inside and outside.

Guest table centerpieces are most imperative in support of setting the tone of the reception. Guests sit at the tables for several hours and the centerpieces ought to be an eye-catching conversation piece. They are additionally a way to convey the couple’s interests. Candles, balloons and flower petals are continuously classic centerpieces accents, but consider a number of other ideas: If you and your fiancé are both outdoor enthusiasts, your florist can incorporate tall grasses into the design if you both have a contemporary way about you, create something using orchids and river stone to your designs. We also recommend mixing it up. Make use of two to three various versions of your design; it gives depth and provides visual attention.

In addition to your guest tables, you additionally have the dais table, cake table display and gift table. Try to follow through the same theme all the way through the reception. We suggest using plenty of candle illumination on the dais table. Really try to overdo it. The outcome is a really magical reception venue.

Ice Sculptures
Ice sculptures are a dramatic way to enhance your reception. Sculptors can form these memorable creations into almost any statue you want, from a bride and groom dancing to a monogram of the Bride and Groom’s initials. These ice sculptures are surprisingly not expensive for the effect they accomplish.

Particular Varieties Of Flower Arrangement

Submitted by Daniel McDowell
Whenever you want to say it with flowers, the implications of the particular floral arrangement should be highly considered. Flowers express every emotion – be it love, hate, sympathy or congratulations. Fresh flower arrangement is the purest form of all expressions. Fresh flower arrangements or floral designs usually follow the following guidelines:

The largest and darkest flowers are placed close to the base of the design while the smallest and the lightest are placed at the outer edges of the arrangement.

The floral arrangement should be divided into line materials (twigs, tiny flowers), dominant materials (big flowers), secondary materials (other flowers), and filler materials (foliage) and placed harmoniously and proportionately.

The container must have elegance, class and style that fit in with the overall decor.

The basic flower arrangement methods can be roughly classified according to the shape of the floral design as-

· Mound Flower Arrangement

· Triangular Flower Arrangement

. Asymmetrical Flower Arrangement

· Crescent Flower Arrangement

· Hogarth Curve Flower Arrangement

Some individual floral arrangements:

Roses are originally cultivated in various shades of pink – from the palest pink to the deepest crimson. The implication of the pink rose floral arrangement incorporate grace and elegance, as well as cuteness and poetic romance. Based on the occasion they also entail gratitude, appreciation and even sympathy. In a perfect arrangement the roses are perfectly pointed or gracefully curved.

The peony means ‘most beautiful’, and is idolized by the Chinese and the Japanese. It is native to Europe, Asia and North America with a variety of shades – from white to peach to dark maroon. Being seasonal, it is available between May and July. A peony floral arrangement symbolizes luxury and indulgence. These fragrant, gigantic flowers work well alone in a bouquet or a mixed arrangement. Their thin stems require wiring and are popular in the wedding flower arrangement.

Gerbera Daisy flower happens to be the most popular cut flowers. The gerbera daisy flower arrangement is widely used in bouquets and dry flower crafts. The flowers available in different hues are hardy enough to with stand the rigors of transportation, as they are found only in the humid tropical climates. Chemical preservative solution is recommended for this floral arrangement.

Miniature flower arrangement – Here the shape of the arrangement is a circle, triangle, an L- shape or a S-curve. The taller flowers are placed at the focal point. The ends are dipped in glue for better posture. The filler leaves are then inserted.

Spring flower arrangement comprises of primarily the Classic Dutch Tulip. Other popular flowers include daffodil, iris, cyclamen and crocus.

Tropical flowers can be preserved up to three weeks. They require fresh water and need to be kept away from heat sources. For a Tropical Flower arrangement, the stems of the flowers are first arranged, and then evenly trimmed at the bottom. Dendrobium and Anthurium are the most popular varieties.

The Exotic flower arrangements lend a perfect touch of beauty to the modern day apartments. With proper attention and care this floral arrangement can stay fresh for three weeks. The most popular of the arrangements are:

Anthurium and Stargazer Lilies arrangement – It is a magnificent assortment of colors. Protea and Ginger arrangement – it is a combination of Queen Protea flowers and pink Ginger flowers which provide a calming sensation.

The fruit flower arrangement came across as a fun concept quite long ago. It takes shape when fruits are made the focal point of the floral design. The assembling is done harmoniously keeping the color, form and shape of the design in mind. They generally form the center-table pieces.

Beauty of Silk Flower Arrangements Won’t Die

Submitted by Samantha Lorry
The bottom line is this: flowers command attention. They have the power to bring a room to life, and the easiest way to keep flowers in a room is to purchase a silk flower arrangement. In most situations, with a bit of judicious arranging, they are ready-to-go, straight from the box, and their visual impact on a room is powerful and immediate.

Silk flowers are very versatile for making beautiful flower arrangements. They come in different sizes and different flower types. Some common ones are, Tulips, Roses, Daisies, and Hydrangeas. You can pick and choose from all the many varieties and sizes to create many different looks. You can vary the look of the arrangement even more by using a variety of vases, such as synthetic ones or clear ones with fake water.

With silk flower arrangements, color is the key. The flowers will attract so much attention that finding an attractive color palette that complements your room’s decor is a necessity. For everyday arrangements, the most common hues are widely available–red, green, cream, and more. Or change the look by adding seasonal blooms, such as flowers in the warm colors of autumn, or try a holiday theme for festive flair. Clear or neutral colored vases allow the flowers themselves to take center stage.

Now that you have the perfect color, the next most important consideration is height. For instance, a short, compact arrangement seems to work best for a space such as the dinner table. This allows your guests to see each other when seated. A taller arrangement would work best with a larger, less intimate space, such as a foyer, or perhaps the mantle above a hearth.

Workplaces need the beauty and color of silk flowers, too, so don’t neglect your office, where you spend so much of your time. A bouquet of silk flowers that’s not too large, not too small, will be both attractive and appropriate for most offices.

The simple beauty of silk flower arrangements makes them an essential element of your decorating designs, but it’s their relatively cheap price that makes them indispensable. Silk bouquets cost roughly the same as comparable arrangements of fresh flowers, with the smaller arrangements priced from $20 to $50, and larger ones from $150 to $250. But unlike fresh blooms, the cost-effective silk variety will be beautiful for years, and need only an occasional gentle dusting to stay looking fresh. And creating a new look is amazingly simple; I can change the look of my table to reflect the changing seasons by simply removing one arrangement and replacing it with another, straight from its box to the dining room, in just minutes.
