Exotic Flowers 101

Submitted by Anne Clarke
Local flowers and plants can be a great addition to any office or table, but when it comes to wanting something a little different, exotic flowers create an exciting and delightful atmosphere in any room. Partners and family members alike will simply gush over these new and intriguing floral gifts. Don’t worry about seeing anything already like it around; exotic plants like King Protea, ginger and orchids capture everyone’s attention. From bright purple, electric blue and lemon yellow colors to soft, creamy and silky textures, exotic flowers tantalize the senses. Detectable when you first enter the room, the fresh and romantic smell of flowers can’t be ignored.

Virtually any flower or plant can be found and gathered for the bouquet gift that says something extra. Whether you want to reach across the country or the nearest ocean, your florist can find that special flower you want to share with a loved one. Exotic plants and flowers include some of the most delicate and bewildering species such as:

Anthuriums Ginger Blue Roses Iris Delphinium Hot Pink Carnations Lilac (Asiatic, Oriental, Standard) Bronze Callas Orchids King Protea Orchids Chinaberries Artichokes Figs Limes Heleconias

Each flower also carries its own message passed on from culture to culture and throughout the generations. From friendship and love to admiration, constancy, remembrances and radiance, your florist can help find the right flower for your loved one. Exotic flowers also allow for exciting new bouquet designs and palettes. Provide wishes of tranquility, celebration, love and sympathy with various bouquets that can be inspiring and intricate or subtle and simple.

When buying flowers, be sure to let your florist know how long you plan on keeping the arrangement as certain flowers last longer than others. Additionally, make sure to keep your floral arrangement in a place away from direct sunlight and cooling or heating vents. Sometimes locations near fans or the tops of radiators, televisions or computers can dehydrate flowers, so try to find a level area away from heat waves.

Exotic flower arrangements also arrive in various foundational structures. From foam to vases, you’ll want to speak to your florist or read the instructions on the proper care. Floral food is also made available by florists and can nourish flowers and discourage bacteria. It’s an easy way to keep your fresh flowers around longer and to keep them healthy. Make sure you read the directions thoroughly, as improperly mixed solution can harm floral arrangements.

These great colors, textures and smells were once treasured gift brought from overseas, but now with expanding technologies and sciences, flowers can be brought to any wedding, funeral, celebration, date, or living room. Or to just remind that special someone you are thinking of them! Sometimes cultivated nearby and other times flown in when requested, exotic flowers bring everyone closer together. Quirky, elegant, heartwarming or passionate, there’s sure to be a floral arrangement that says exactly what you want to.
