haha, I left out the price earlier. She said $1500??
They are all real roses. Any suggestions on cheaper flowers? Also I will be checking Costco to see their pricing. Someone I know (a florist) is doing this for me. She says she knocked off $500. Also this includes all glassware and all to have everything completed. I will not need to buy anything else on my own.

Wedding Flowers Basics – 5 Easy Steps to Planning Your Wedding Floral Arrangements

Submitted by Cori Russell
Aside from the bouquet you spring for each Mother’s Day, chances are you’re a novice when it comes to flowers. However, now you are a bride-to-be planning your dream wedding, and suddenly you must make decisions on bouquets, boutonnieres, reception centerpieces and ceremony arrangements. Overwhelming? Yes. Fortunately, this guide will walk you through this process so you can enjoy planning your wedding flowers without wilting from the stress. Read through these useful tips gathered from experts in the field.

Discover Your Style

Close your eyes and envision the perfect look to your wedding. Will it be formal or casual? Elaborate or simple? Bold or neutral colors? Are you a traditionalist in favor of roses or lilies, or do you favor a more contemporary floral theme incorporating grasses, fruits and herbs? Your wedding flowers are more than eye candy; they set the ambiance for the entire event. Knowing your wedding style is a start in the right direction, because you’ll want to choose blossoms that match the formality of your wedding day.

Pick Your Palette

Your color scheme should flow directly from your desired style. Today’s floral trends embrace an anything goes mentality, from wedding flowers in traditional whites and pastels to modern and adventurous dark hues and citrus shades. Flowers in matching shades or cool contrasts are breathtaking, but make sure they coordinate with your overall wedding theme. Choose your wedding colors accordingly, and your wedding will express your spirit. If you are still not sure where to begin, bring a bridesmaid dress fabric swatch when you meet with your florist and choose coordinating shades.

Go With the Season

You know your floral theme and you’ve chosen your color scheme. When deciding on the specific blooms your want in your arrangements, be sure to consider the season in which you are marrying. Consult this seasonal wedding flowers guide for help.

Set Your Floral Budget

Let’s face it: Determining how much wedding flowers cost is probably not the aspect of your wedding you’ve been dreaming of since grade school. You may see your floral budget as the biggest nemesis between you and your wedding flowers. If you plan wisely, however, you should have enough money to create the floral theme of your desires. Expect to spend about 8-10% of your overall budget on wedding flowers.

Hire a Florist

Even the most creative and artistic bride will benefit from a florist’s professional capabilities. Your wedding day will be full of activity, and you won’t want to spend vital hours fumbling with the wiring of each bouquet. A florist is not necessarily a budget breaker; a good one should be able to work with any floral budget.

Now that you’ve been prepped with the basics, this complete wedding flowers guide will walk you the rest of the way towards planning your floral and decor scheme.

Question about wedding flowers?

Submitted by pang
Hi. I’m trying to get an idea of how much money I saved (if any) by doing my own wedding flowers (middle to high quality silks). Anybody out there (brides, florists, etc) who can make an educated guess of how much the following list of items would have cost me if I had used a traditional wedding florist? All of the flowers used were roses, and some filler flowers and fall leaves were used as accents.

1 very large round bride bouquet with 2-3 dozen large open roses, fall leaves, and filler flowers, with handle fully wrapped in satin ribbon

2 large round maid of honor bouquets with 5 open roses and 10 rose buds, few fall leaves, some filler flowers, handles fully wrapped in satin ribbon.

5 medium sized bridesmaids bouquets containing 4 open roses, and 8 rosebuds, few fall leaves, some filler flower handles fully wrapped in satin ribbon.

3 mother wrist corsages, 2-3 roses each

11 single rose bud boutonnieres

1 groom boutonniere with 2 rosebuds, accent flowers

16 pew markers, containing satin bows and 3 roses each

4 medium sized church arrangements containing about 2 dozen roses each

2 small swags and 2 garlands, 4 additional decoration bouquets
FYI, I already have the flowers. The list above is everything that I have and have already done. The bouquets look real from a few feet away. Actually, a few months ago I bought a bouquet of fresh orange roses from the grocery store and then compared them to my silks and they looked extremely similar…actually the silks looked better because their color was more vibrant. Honestly, flowers weren’t all that important to me…I mean I want them to be nice but I didn’t want the flowers to be one of the biggest expenses of my wedding. There were other places I would rather spend money, on things that mean more to me. So that is why I went with silks. But I’ve just been wondering what I would have paid ballpark for all of those fresh roses if I had gone through a florist.

Silk Flower Arrangements, Simple and Beautiful Decorating

Submitted by D Randolph
Everyone notices flowers. Let me say that again, everyone notice flowers. Flowers can make the room and silk flower arrangements are the easiest way to do this. Silk Flower Arrangements are pre-made floral arrangements. They can be taken out of the box and set on a table in an instant in most cases. This is the simplest decorating technique that will have a great impact on a room.

These artificial floral arrangements are available in many sizes and can me made up of a single type of flower or a combination of flowers. Silk Roses, Tulips, Gerbera Daisies and Hydrangeas are the most popular flowers for arranging but many others are available. Clear vases and planters with faux water are the more common but clay or synthetic vases are usually found as well.

Color is important. A silk flower arrangement will bring a burst of color to a room so make sure it is the right color. Reds, Yellow, Creams, Pinks, Greens and Oranges are all pretty easy to find. You can also find arrangements that are more seasonal especially ones with a autumn theme or a Christmas theme. Clear vases are the most neutral but typically silk flower arrangements have neutral colored containers.

The next consideration is height. I personally prefer a short silk flower arrangement for dining tables. This makes it so guests don’t have to try to peer to the side to get a glimpse of another guest. In other settings there are numerous sizes available. Use a tall arrangement next to a fireplace or in an entry way, use a very small and compact arrangement in an intimate dining area.

One place often over looked in using flowers is an office. Offices benefit from a mid sized silk flower arrangement. People spend a lot of time in an office. Flowers can really make for a nice look.

The ease and cost of Silk Flower Arrangements make them a must have for decorating. From a cost standpoint, small arrangements cost $20-50 and a large arrangement will cost $150-250. This is very comparable to fresh flowers except that these will last for years. At home I keep 4 different arrangements for our dining table and switch them around throughout the year. This is a very cost effective plan. They store nicely and when I buy a new arrangement, I can very often just take it out of the box and put it on the table. Maintenance is also easy. A little light dusting with a feather duster usually does the trick.

How to Keep Your Flower Bouquets Looking Fresh

Submitted by Steve Miers
Whether you have cut fresh flowers from your own garden or brought some home from the store, there are some tricks that you can do to keep your bouquet looking fresh for days and even weeks. These tips should allow you and others to enjoy your flowers and keep others wondering how you got such a green thumb.

When selecting a bouquet or flowers to add to your bouquet, flower choice can make a difference in the life of your arrangement. Some flowers wilt or die faster than others once they are cut. Carnations, daisies, baby’s breath, lilies, mum and roses tend to last long when they are properly cared for.

When arranging your bouquet in a flower vase, strip the leaves from the bottom of the stems. If the leaves sit in the water too long, they can cause the water to have a bad odor. If you buy a bouquet, add the powder that comes with it to the water to help extend the life of the flowers. Ask the florist for an extra packet or two of powder. Make sure that the flower arrangement gets some sunlight. If you keep it in a room that has no windows, the arrangement will not last as long. Put some flowers in that have already bloomed and some that are still in bud form so that as one flower dies another one will be in full bloom.

Change the water every 2-3 days and add new powder if you have any. Cut about ¼”-1/2″ off the stem of each flower. Remove any flowers as they die. This helps the arrangement to continue looking fresh. You can replace them with new flowers or greenery from your garden if there are any gaps left in the flower arrangement. If you don’t have access to other flowers, move them to a smaller vase.

If you are having flowers sent to someone, ask the florist if they can recommend flowers that will last a long time. Also ask the florist if they have any recommendations on how to care for the flowers so that you can pass these tips on to the recipient.

Extending the life of your flower arrangement can be easy if you are willing to take a little time to give it some TLC. With little effort, you can keep your flower bouquet looking healthy and beautiful for an extended period of time so that you are able to enjoy it for days and weeks to come.
